The choice to quit is one of the toughest

While in the AA program, a long time sober member is usually assigned to the new member to provide the support and guidance necessary. They are called the sponsor, and volunteer to be available day or night to the recovering alcoholic who is stopping drinking. Even after being sober for what may seem like a reasonable time, a former drinker will “get the urge”, or have a BUD – a build up to a drink.

Stopping drinking – easy or hard?

Don’t be fooled by these 10-day or 30-day quick cure clinics. Anyone who pays attention to the news knows how often they see a celebrity go through one of these programs only to be arrested for a DUI 6 months later. Stopping drinking is a serious goal, and it must be approached in a serious way.
