If you are an avid sailor, why not take your hobby one step further by studying for a RYA certificate?

The certificates from the Royal Yachting Association are prestigious, and universally recognized. Their sailing courses are available in many countries around the world. And, you don’t have to live by the sea.

There are numerous ways to earn a RYA courses certificate. You can enroll in a night class at your local community college, or apply to a coastal sailing school. If your time is limited, and you wish to work at your own pace, you may also order a sailing course on CD ROM. You will learn all the necessary theory of sailing, and then you will be able to take the exam at the end.

Bear in mind that these types of courses are theory only. If you are looking for more practical training, then, you should look into one of the many sea schools. Sea school sailing courses are usually conducted over a week or over a number of consecutive weekends. They are a great, hands-on, opportunity to hone your sailing skills.

There are two types of certification available: Tidal and Non-Tidal. The tidal will require you to spend a period of time aboard a sailing vessel. In order to earn a Day Skipper certificate you will be required to live aboard for 5 days, and have at least 100 miles of tidal water sailing experience.

Sailing courses are the way to go if you plan to become a more serious yachtsman.
