The research done on brand fragrance by famous perfume companies has been added to by scientific research into the effect that a fragrance has on attracting customers and making them buy. Just as animals use natural scents to attract a mate or to let a mate know that she can be approached, human beings are also affected by natural scents produced by both females and males especially when the reproductive cycle is strongest in the female. These scientific studies have produced a whole new product line of machine scent which are artificially produced scents that are added to a store or other business concerns including offices to be diffused by the air conditioning system when it is turned on.
A machine scent diffuser is becoming more and more popular especially by stores that are becoming weary of the piped in music and would rather draw in customs by selecting a defining scent and adding it to their central air and heat systems. These designer scents are like branding strategies which are similar to any kind of branding as indicating ownership of the scent being diffused and psychologically branding customers as theirs which makes for a feeling of belonging by the customer or client which is what branding is all about.
Getting people to feel as if they are a part of the business establishment eases their discomfort and makes for a more willing buyer of the establishments goods, products, or services.
