A Washable Rug : An End to Professional Cleaning
Author: Simon Jenner | Filed under: Home Life
Rugs are a wonderful addition to your home. They add color and style, consolidating the theme of your room (provided that the style is complementary!). They add comfort and softness to your floor too, which is especially useful on the hard surfaces so popular today for our floors.
The one problem with rugs however is that they can get grubby if we don’t look after them. Things get spilled on them. They collect crumbs. And they collect dirt from our shoes. So they need to be regularly cleaned. How marvelous it is then to find you can now buy a washable rug to prevent having to get your rug specialist cleaned.
Just imagine a party and the beautiful new pale green rug in your living room is admired by all. If it becomes not so beautiful as a result of the party and folks becomes a bit careless then you can quickly sort out the damage. You should, of course, treat any stain as soon as you can in the same way that you might treat a non-washable carpet. A bit of carpet cleaner may do the trick without having to give your rug a wash. But if the stain is difficult to shift then you know you can wash your rug to help remove it.
Some rugs will be too big to go in your washing machine (and some rugs have to be washed by hand anyway) so don’t worry about giving your rug a good wash in the bathtub. Be sure to treat the stain itself carefully with proprietary stain removers. (Test first if necessary on a tiny part of the back to make sure they do not damage your rug). Once you have cleaned your rug, give it several rinses with clean water and then remove as much water as you can before hanging up over your bath tub (or outside on a line in fair weather) to dry naturally.
It’s not a process you want to go through too often of course, but when you need to it can really extend the life of your rug without expensive cleaning bills.
