You actually need to learn something new almost everyday and have the tools to make your site better than the rest of the sites you compete with. Everyday more and more people learn about the importance of optimizing the rankings of their websites. If you don’t learn at least some things you’ll fail and that’s not the goal at all, is it? So you need to learn some search engine optimization techniques if you want to be able to compete.
Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a term used by lots of people in e-commerce. Since 1997 and for the next ten years or so search engines will be the most used tool for finding information on the net. People will continue to use it to find the products or information they need.
A lot of the people using search engines only look at the first page of the results. Some will tell you that if you aren’t on the first page you will never get any traffic. Obviously the higher your ranking the more traffic and getting into the top three in the Search Engines Results Pages or SERPs you will get more traffic and sell more of your product.
For a lot of sites a major traffic source is the search engines like Google, MSN or Yahoo to name the big three. There’s not much point in building a website unless you can also have visitors to the site. By designing a site that’s friendly to search engines you’ll rank on on their results pages and have more people coming to your website. This is why you need website search engine optimization.
Almost all search engines use crawlers or robots to go thru your site and index it so they can list it on their results pages. They follow the links on your site to a page, capture the contents of that page and record it in their database and then pull it up as people do a search.
Avoid using frames if you want your site to be easy to index. They do still confuse search engine crawlers and they might not even index your whole site because of the frames. Frames also make it hard for people to bookmark individual pages on your site. If they can’t return to the page they are interested in, easily, they won’t bother and you will also lose sales.
