Most stock sites provide historic stock quotes in daily, weekly or monthly intervals, and incorporate a history of stock splits and dividends. Many sites allow you to download historical stock price data with a click of your mouse to software such as Excel to further review. Historical stock quotes are an important piece of researching potential investment opportunities. They are not very useful to a short term trader such a day trader, scalper or swing trader but they are absolutely necessary for a long term investor.

The historical stock quotes include daily high, low, open, close and volume information. Historical stock quotes are not available just for stocks but for indexes as well such as the NYSE, Nasdaq and AMEX
