Studies indicate that only about 10% of men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer choose active surveillance over prostate cancer treatments. Should studies with longer follow-up continue to support the advantages of this treatment option for carefully selected patients, expect more men to follow suit.

Specialist are still learning more about the long-term results of active surveillance for prostate cancer treatments. One study in The Journal of Urology found that of 262 men who chose active surveillance, 43 (16%) underwent prostate cancer treatments after a median follow-up of 2.5 years. Prostate Cancer Treatments with radical prostatectomy, radiation, cryotherapy, or androgen-deprivation therapy was successful in the short term in 42 of the 43 patients (95%). One patient did develop metastatic cancer three years after beginning active surveillance.

I wonder why would anyone choose active surveillance if there is even a tiny chance that the cancer could spread? Between 30 and 50% of men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer in the United States have a disease that would have remained undetected during their life times in the absence of screening. These men will not benefit from prostate cancer treatments. But if they choose prostate cancer treatments, they put themselves at risk for severe urinary and sexual problems that can dramatically impair their quality of life. Therefore, it’s a reasonable option for some men to forestall prostate cancer treatments until it’s definitly clear that invasive surgery is necessary.

Do you know the pH miracle advocate Dr. Robert Young?

Dr. Young heralds that a diet that is made up of 80% alkaline producing foods and 20% acid producing foods will allow people to achieve their healthier bodies and healthier lives.

The pH diet is an innovative way to interact with food. The diet stresses the need for balance in the diet of alkaline and acid. This balance will help maintain a healthy flow through the bloodstream and keep cellular growth and development working at optimum levels.  By following a simple regimen of balanced eating along with testing saliva for pH levels, one can achieve better health. The primary biology factors and advocate stated trusting of this alkaline diet is Dr. Robert Young.

Through his research Dr. Young has surmised that the optimum pH level of the human body is 7.35. The pH spectrum is from 1 to 14 with 1 being highly acid and 14 being highly alkaline. With the body leaning toward moderately alkaline he contends that people can supplement their diets with more alkaline. By lowering destructive acid levels with more alkaline a host of benefits can result, namely sustainable energy and good health. Dr. Robert Young stresses that a body that is ravaged by excess acid will be more prone to serious health problems. Read the rest of this entry »
